Queen d’Azur Middelstede produced twenty foals and nine of them found their way into sport. Her oldest son Torinto van de Middelstede went straight to 1.60m with British rider Guy Williams, and Domino reached that same level. Behind them follow Newton van de Middelstede at 1.45m and La Princesse van de Middelstede and Quatro vd Middelstede at 1.40m. A nest like that delivers repeatability rather than one lucky outlier.
From the same mare came Mystique van de Middelstede. She jumped 1.50m herself with Hannes Symons and is a daughter of Emerald van ‘t Ruytershof, Harrie Smolders’ Olympic stallion. Emerald was used on this second dam twice, giving the stallion Major van de Middelstede alongside Mystique. Her niece Labelle vd Middelstede, also an Emerald daughter, reached 1.60m with Catherine Kubiak, the third name at that level in this family. Comme il Faut is 1.60m-rated himself and ranks among the most sought-after jumping sires in Europe. That his blood suits this line shows in Quelle Princesse 55, who competes at 1.40m out of the same breeding family.
