Rio de Janeiro GP

Pegase van 't RuytershofUkato

Rio de Janeiro is the kind of horse that makes a lasting impression. At just 4 years old, he’s already shown what he’s made of — winning the Hendrix competition and standing as one of the most complete young jumpers we’ve seen. Athletic, powerful, and extremely smart, he’s bold to the fences, yet perfectly rideable and modern in size, with a big, adjustable stride and natural balance. An approved stallion already used for breeding, Rio combines scope, character, and presence in a rare and exciting way.

He’s the kind of horse that, with the right program and a little patience, could go all the way. One of the best 4-year-olds ever ridden by Abdel — and clearly one of his personal favorites: bred to impress, built to perform.

The exceptionally talented Rio de Janeiro GP is a son of Pegase van ‘t Ruytershof out of a dam by the renowned Ukato. His great-granddam D Landetta is a famous mare, standing at the basis of the highly successful Verdi III, who competed in the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen with Tiffany Foster. Furthermore, Rio de Janeiro GP is closely related to the legendary mare Gitania, who was 3rd in the World Cup Final with Marcus Ehning. Sire Pegase van ‘t Ruytershof brings in the valuable genes of Comme Il Faut as well as the damline of the famous Emerald.
